Seattle Mariners Star Julio Rodriguez Once Again Joins Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez in Team Record Books

The Seattle Mariners won on Monday night against the Boston Red Sox as young star Julio Rodriguez joined some of the biggest names in Mariners history in team lore.

Just hours after trading away closer Paul Sewald to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Seattle Mariners delivered a humongous 6-2 win over the Boston Red Sox.

The win moves Seattle to 55-51 and a season-best four games over .500. It also shrank their deficit in the American League West to just five games, and put them at just 3.5 games back in the American League wild card race.

Cal Raleigh starred in the win, hitting two home runs off Nick Pivetta, while second-year star Julio Rodriguez delivered a key two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

With the hit, Rodriguez joined superstars Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez in team history.

Per @MarinersPR on social media:

Longest on-base streak by a @Mariners player age 22-or-younger:

25 G --@JRODshow44 (July 1-c)

25 G -- Ken Griffey Jr. (June 16-July 15, 1990)

25 G -- Alex Rodriguez (July 16-Aug. 10, 1996)

Julio Rodriguez got on base every game in the month of July for Seattle, which had its best overall month of the season. To join Alex Rodriguez and Griffey in team history is saying something, considering they are the two of the three best position players in franchise history, Ichiro being the other.

Julio Rodriguez won the Rookie of the Year in 2022 and has followed it up with a .251 average. He's got 17 home runs and 57 RBI and has stolen 24 bases.

The M's and Red Sox will play a critical game two of their three-game set on Tuesday night.

First pitch is 9:40 p.m. ET, just hours after the 6 p.m. trade deadline.
