As the Seattle Mariners looked to keep pace in the crowded American League playoff picture on Wednesday, starting pitcher George Kirby delivered a history-making performance.

The New York native and Elon product went 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. He walked none and struck out three in moving to 11-10 on the year. He now has a 3.58 ERA.

Per @MarinersPR:

Most quality starts with 0 walks by a pitcher age 25-or-younger in MLB history:

11 -- George Kirby-SEA (2023)

10 -- Jesse Barnes-BSN (1917)

10 -- Robin Roberts-PHI (1952)

10 -- Walker Buehler-LAD (2019)

Kirby's control is the hallmark of his game, as he's walked just 18 batters in 178.2 innings. He's struck out 161 and was named to his first All-Star Game this season (which was held in Seattle).

The 6-3 win over the Oakland Athletics moved the Mariners to 84-68 on the year. They remain tied with the Texas Rangers for the third and final wild card spot in the American League. Both teams are also 0.5 games back of the Houston Astros in the American League West.

The M's have won three games in a row after getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend.

Seattle will begin a huge series on Friday with the Rangers in Arlington. First pitch on Friday is set for 8:05 p.m. ET as Bryce Miller (SEA) goes up against Dane Dunning (TEX).

Miller is 8-5 on the year with a 3.88 ERA while Dunning is 10-6 with a 3.78.
