Yu Darvish of the San Diego Padres Moves to the Top of This Incredible Leaderboard

Yu Darvish of the San Diego Padres is now the all-time strikeout king among Japanese pitchers in MLB history.

The San Diego Padres lost to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night 4-1.

Though a disappointing setback for San Diego, the game featured an awesome piece of history as Yu Darvish became the all-time strikeout leader for Japanese pitchers in Major League Baseball.

With his 6th strikeout of the night, Yu Darvish brought his career total to 1,919.

That moved him past Hideo Nomo for the most strikeouts by a Japanese-born pitcher in MLB history.

Nomo was there in person to watch Darvish pitch as well, sitting up in the boxes.

Darvish surrendered four runs over 7.0 innings in the loss, one that took him to 8-8 this season. The veteran now has a 4.24 ERA.

One of the best pitchers of the last decade, he's in his 11th year in the big leagues with the Rangers, Cubs, Dodgers and Padres. He's 103-83 lifetime with a 3.56 ERA. He also helped Team Japan win the World Baseball Classic this past March.

As for Nomo, he spent 12 years in the big leagues with the Dodgers, Mets, Brewers, Tigers, Red Sox, Rays and Royals. He was 123-109 lifetime, made an All-Star team and won a Rookie of the Year.

The Padres are now 56-63 on the season and 6.5 games back in the National League wild card race. They have lost eight of their last 10 games and will take on the Orioles again on Tuesday night.

First pitch from Petco Park is set for 9:40 p.m. ET.
