Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman sustained a 'slight hamstring injury' Tuesday in Team Canada's World Baseball Classic game against Team Colombia, forcing the six-time National League All-Star to exit the game early.

Freeman sustained the injury in the third inning, sometime between swinging and running to first base, Jon Morosi reported on FOX's broadcast of the game.

Losing Freeman for any amount of time would be a significant loss for the Los Angeles Dodgers, a club that already lost its shortstop Gavin Lux for the season, after Lux tore his ACL in a spring training game two weeks ago.

The severity of Freeman's injury has yet to be revealed.

Injuries have been a concern for players and teams alike, entering the World Baseball Classic. No player ever wants to sustain an injury, especially just two weeks from Opening Day.

Freeman excelled in his first season as a Dodger, leading the National League in On Base Percentage (.407) and earning his fourth-straight All-Star appearance. After playing his first 12 seasons for the Atlanta Braves, Freeman signed a six-year, $162 million contract with the Dodgers last March.

Instead of re-signing Freeman, the Braves replaced Freeman with All-Star first baseman Matt Olson, trading for the slugger from the Oakland Athletics, and then signing Olson to an eight-year extension.
