Texas Rangers' general manager Chris Young has announced that World Series hero Corey Seager has undergone surgery to address a sports hernia, putting his status for Opening Day in doubt.

Per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com:

I'm filling in for @kennlandry this week and Rangers GM Chris Young announced that SS Corey Seager underwent surgery today to repair a left sports hernia. But he could be ready for Opening Day. "The concern level is not very high."

It's good to hear that the concern level is not high but the Rangers will undoubtedly not rush Seager back, either. He's far too important to the lineup to play at less than 100 percent early, so they'll give him all the time he needs.

Seager had a banner year in 2023, helping the Rangers win their first-ever World Series championship. He hit .327 during the regular season, popping 33 homers and bringing home 96. He did all that in just 119 games, missing some time with a leg injury.

He also shined in the playoffs, hitting .286 in the World Series with three home runs as the Rangers beat the Diamondbacks. He was named World Series MVP for his efforts, the second time he's won that award. He also won it in 2020 as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Lifetime, Seager is a .292 hitter with 170 home runs. He's played nine years in the big leagues with the two franchises. He is a Rookie of the Year winner, a three-time Silver Slugger and a four-time All-Star.
