Toronto Blue Jays' Reliever Gets Suspension Reduced

Toronto Blue Jays' reliever Genesis Cabrera had his suspension reduced from three games to two games after his weekend dust-up with Jose Caballero of the Tampa Bay Rays.

After being responsible for a benches-clearing incident this past weekend, Toronto Blue Jays' reliever Genesis Cabrera had his suspension reduced from three games to two games by Major League Baseball.

Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun had the information on social media:

#BlueJays inform that the Genesis Cabrera suspension has been reduced to two games, beginning with tonight's contest against the Astros in Houston.

You can see the incident which caused the benches-clearing incident below. It was from Saturday night's game between the Rays and Blue Jays. Cabrera took exception to something that Rays' infielder Jose Caballero said or did as he was moving into third base.

"Foul Territory" had the video on social media:

"Benches have cleared between the Blue Jays and Rays after some pushing and shoving."

Cabrera is a 27-year-old reliever who is in his sixth Major League season with the St. Louis Cardinals and Blue Jays. Lifetime, he's 14-11 with a 4.10 ERA. He made a career-high 71 appearances back in 2021 and made 61 last year. He was traded to the Blue Jays by the Cardinals last year before the trade deadline.

A hard-thrower, he's made two appearances this year, pitching to an 18.00 ERA in just two innings.

The Blue Jays are 2-3 this season and they will take on the aforementioned Astros on Tuesday night at 8:10 p.m. ET. Houston enters the game at 1-4 after no-hitting the Blue Jays on Monday.

Jose Berrios (1-0, 3.00 ERA) gets the ball for Toronto while Framber Valdez (0-0, 5.79 ERA) pitches for Houston.
