Veteran infielder Tony Kemp has signed a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post had the report on social media:

Tony Kemp to Twins. Minors deal.

Kemp was just let go by the Baltimore Orioles so that Jackson Holliday could get promoted to the majors, but he'll join the Twins, who are dealing with injuries all over the infield. Royce Lewis is still out because of a quad issue and Carlos Correa is now on the IL because of an intercostal issue.

Kemp is in his ninth year in the big leagues with the Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs and Orioles. He is a lifetime .237 hitter with 35 homers. He hit .279 for the A's back in the 2021 season. Furthermore, he also provides defensive versatiliy, as he can play second base or multiple outfield positions.

There's no telling how long he'll last in the Twins system, as he could be odd man out when Lewis and Correa return, but there's multiple weeks until that happens for either player.

Kemp hit a career-high eight homers in both 2019 and 2021 and he also stole 15 bases last season.

The Twins are coming off a season in which they won the American League Central and defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in the wild card round of the playoffs. They were subsequently beaten by the Astros in the ALDS.

Minnesota is currently involved in a series with the Orioles at Camden Yards. First pitch on Tuesday is 6:35 p.m. ET.
