Minnesota Twins' Closer Still Unsure of Injury Return Timeline

Minnesota Twins' closer Jhoan Duran is working his way back from a strained oblique that has cost him the entire season so far, but he still isn't sure when he'll be back on the mound.

Minnesota Twins' closer Jhoan Duran is making solid progress in his recovery from an oblique injury but he still isn't sure about when he will be back on the mound.

Per Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press on social media:

Jhoan Duran says he no longer has pain in his oblique and said it's been "a lot of days" since he's felt it.

He threw from 105 feet today but isn't sure yet what his timeline will look like.

The 26-year-old Duran is one of the best arms in all of baseball, routinely touching over 100 miles per hour with his fastball.

He made his debut in 2022 and is 5-10 lifetime with a 2.15 ERA. He's pitched in 57 games or more in each of the last two years and saved 27 a season ago. He struck out 84 batters in just 62.1 innings in 2023 as the Twins won the American League Central. Minnesota also won a Wild Card series against the Toronto Blue Jays before losing in the ALDS against the Houston Astros.

Thusfar, Minnesota is 3-3 on the young season and they sit in fourth place in the division, behind the Tigers (6-1), Guardians (6-1) and Royals (4-4).

On Saturday, the Twins and Guardians will play Game 2 of their series from Target Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET as Carlos Carrasco (0-0, 5.40 ERA) pitches for Cleveland. Joe Ryan pitches for the Twins. He's 0-0 with a 1.69 ERA.

Griffin Jax has been serving as the Twins closer in Duran's absence.
