Once Vaunted Milwaukee Brewers Top Prospect Vying For Another Major League Opportunity

The once-heralded Keston Hiura is making another run at a major league opportunity for the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Milwaukee Brewers have one of the top prospects in baseball in outfielder Jackson Chourio and have already called up another top prospect in Sal Frelick.

But there's another guy with a major prospect pedigree making noise for the Brewers down on the farm.

The following update on Keston Hiura comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Hiura went 23-for-69 (.333) with six home runs, three doubles, 22 RBI and a 4:19 BB:K over his last 18 games with Triple-A Nashville.

ANALYSIS
Hiura has spent the entire season at the Triple-A level, but he is doing all he can to earn another trip to the big leagues. The Brewers have been hesitant to call him up because that would require opening a spot on the 40-man roster, but with the end of the campaign drawing closer they may change course at some point.

Hiura was a former Top-10 prospect who hasn't panned out at the major league level, as proved by his jettisoning off the 40-man roster.

The 27-year-old has played in parts of four seasons with the Brewers, seeing diminishing results. He hit 19 home runs in just 84 games in 2019 before leading the majors in strikeouts in 2020. He hit just .168 in 61 games in 2021 and hit .226 in 2022, but he's working to earn another chance.

It's unclear how the Brewers will handle this as they are in the midst of a battle for a playoff spot in the National League. They are 66-57 and lead the National League Central by 2.0 games entering play on Saturday.
