In this story:

We've seen an ambidextrous pitcher before in Major League Baseball. That would be Pat Venditte, who spent parts of five years with the A's, Rays, Mariners, Dodgers, Giants and Marlins.

What we have yet to see in baseball is the "switch fielder," as in someone who can play different positions at different throwing-handedness.

Enter New York Yankees prospect Anthony Seigler, who is going viral for his abilities this week.

You've heard of a switch-hitter, but what about a switch-fielder?

@Yankees prospect Anthony Seigler appeared as a left-handed-throwing left fielder on Wednesday and then a righty-throwing catcher the next day!

Seigler is not on the Yankees Top 30 prospects list as ranked by MLB.com, but we don't care, that's incredibly impressive.

The 24-year-old is currently playing at Double-A Somerset. He was a first-round pick of the Yankees in the 2018 MLB Draft, so the organization certainly believes in his talent.

It's been a struggle for him this season at the plate. He's hitting just .170 through 147 at-bats. He's got one home run and 16 RBI.

In 788 career minor league at-bats, he's a .216 hitter with 13 homers and exactly 100 RBI.

Seigler is part of a changing baseball world, one that accepts uniqueness. We've seen what Shohei Ohtani's ability to be a two-way player has done at the Major League level, and now there's Seigler, who's unique abilities are being celebrated and showcased.

At the major league level, the Yankees are 2.5 games back in the chase for the third and final wild card spot.

They'll play the Houston Astros on Friday night.
