Jurickson Profar Returns to San Diego Padres on One-Year Deal

After spending parts of four seasons with the San Diego Padres, utility player Jurickson Profar is returning to the organization on a one-year deal.

Per Jon Heyman of the 'New York Post' on social media:

Profar deal with Padres is for $1M. Pending physical.

Profar played with San Diego from 2020-2022 before signing with the Rockies at the outset of 2023. He played 111 games for them but finished up the year by playing 14 more in San Diego.

Profar can play all over the diamond and offers the Padres flexibility in the infield or the outfield. Perhaps the outfield is his best path to playing time in 2024, as San Diego enters spring training with just two outfielders on the 40-man roster.

A former top prospect, Profar is a 10-year veteran. He's played with the Texas Rangers, Padres, Oakland Athletics and Rockies. Lifetime, he's a .238 hitter who has smacked 87 homers and driven in 359. He's also stolen 47 bases.

The Padres finished third in the National League West last season and failed to make the playoffs one year after making the NLCS. Despite that disappointment, they still return several interesting pieces for 2024, including Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove on the mound and Xander Bogaerts, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth at the plate.

Despite that, San Diego lost Josh Hader, Blake Snell, Nick Martinez and Seth Lugo this offseason in free agency. They also traded away Trent Grisham and Juan Soto in a deal with the New York Yankees.
