An HBO documentary is in the works about Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants legend Barry Bonds. According to reports from Front Office Sports, production has already started, and the people working on the project are impressive.

HBO has begun production on a new documentary about MLB legend Barry Bonds. The project includes producers from The Last Dance and O.J.: Made in America.

This obviously has fans' attention as Bonds is one of the more interesting baseball characters of the last 30 years.

He's the all-time home run king, but isn't in the Hall of Fame because of allegations of steroid use.

Bonds has one of the most impressive resumes in baseball history, having been named MVP an astonishing seven times. He was also a 14-time All-Star, an eight-time Gold Glover and a winner of two batting titles.

This isn't the first documentary we have heard about recently involving a complicated player; we heard that Alex Rodriguez was interested in producing a documentary about his life.

If documentaries about Bonds and Rodriguez are going to reach the same critical acclaim as 'The Last Dance,' they'll both need to be willing to speak on camera and they'll both need to be willing to be transparent.

The fans want to hear from these figures and they want to hear them go on the record about steroid use and allegations.

Until we know if Bonds will actually do that, this remains just an interesting idea. But with HBO behind it, it certainly has potential and is worth monitoring.
