The Atlanta Braves have officially placed starting shortstop Orlando Arcia on the injured list and recalled Vaughn Grissom from Triple-A Gwinnett.

The Braves sent out a tweet early Friday morning saying:

"The #Braves today recalled INF Vaughn Grissom to Atlanta and placed INF Orlando Arcia on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left wrist."

Grissom was beaten out by Arcia in spring training for the starting job which was a surprise to most people. After all, Grissom had showed well in his debut during the 2022 season. He hit .291 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 141 at-bats.

He was the Braves first-round pick in the 2019 draft.

The injury to Arcia is the latest for a Braves team that has dealt with a bunch in the early portion of this season.

In addition to Arcia, they lost starting pitcher Ian Anderson to Tommy John surgery. They lost ace Max Fried to a hamstring injury right after Opening Day, they've been without closer Raisel Iglesias all season and they've been without starting catcher Travis D'Arnaud for the entire week after going on the concussion injured list. Here's an update on all three of those players.

It's a tough break for Arcia, who was off to a great start this season for the Braves. He's hitting .333 through 13 games and received a contract extension right before the season started. He's also recently drawn praise from people around the game, including former MLB executive Steve Phillips.

The Braves open up a weekend series on Friday night with the Royals on Friday night at 8:10 p.m. ET.
