Atlanta Braves Come to Terms with Veteran Outfielder Who Helped Them Win the World Series
After he spent the 2023 season with the Boston Red Sox, the Atlanta Braves have reunited with slugging outfielder Adam Duvall, who helped them win the 2021 World Series.
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today on social media:
Atlanta signs free-agent outfielder Adam Duvall to one-year, $3 million contract
The 35-year-old has spent 10 years in the big leagues with the Cincinnati Reds, Miami Marlins, Braves and Red Sox. This will actually be his third tour of duty with Atlanta, where he also played from 2018-2020, and again for the back half of 2021 and 2022.
Lifetime, Duvall is a .232 hitter who features immense power. He's got 184 career homers and hit a career-best 38 during the 2021 season. He also led baseball in RBI that season with 113.
Unfortunately, he has some injury concerns, having played just 86 and 92 games over the last two years, but when he does play, he is productive. He hit .247 for Boston a season ago with 21 homers and 58 RBI.
With Atlanta, he figures to get some repetitions at designated hitter, but he could also form part of a platoon in left field with Jarred Kelenic, who was acquired from the Seattle Mariners this offseason.
Ronald Acuna Jr. and Michael Harris II will be the other starting outfielders. Duvall could also be used as a late-game bench bat, especially against left-handed pitching.
Atlanta won the National League East last season and figures to be a World Series favorite again this season.
