On Saturday morning, the Boston Red Sox announced that they have signed outfielder Rob Refsnyder to a contract extension through 2024 with a team option for 2025.

Alex Speier of the Boston Globe had it first on Twitter:

The Red Sox announce they’ve signed Rob Refsnyder to a one-year extension for 2024 with a team option for 2025.

Speier later added the terms of the deal:

Refsnyder will make $1.85M in 2024, with a $2M club option for 2025. The deal includes performance bonuses and escalators.

This is a shrewd move by the Red Sox, as Refsnyder has been extremely valuable in a platoon role. Frequently starting against left-handers, he's hitting .284 this year with one home run, 17 RBI and two stolen bases. He's also played good defense in the outfield when he plays.

Boston appreciates him, and he seems to appreciate Boston, having found a home with the Red Sox after several years of bouncing around the league.

He made his major league debut in 2015 with the New York Yankees and then also played for the Blue Jays (2017), Rays (2018), Rangers (2020) and Twins (2021) before coming to Boston before the 2022 season.

Lifetime, he's a .247 hitter with 13 homers.

The Red Sox are currently in last place in the American League East at 29-27. They have a very tough stretch coming up in which they play the first-place Tampa Bay Rays four times in three days.

The two teams were rained out on Friday so they are playing the pre-planned doubleheader on Saturday, a single game on Sunday and the makeup game from the postponement on Monday afternoon.

First pitch on Saturday of Game 1 is 1:10 p.m. ET.
