The Boston Red Sox are sitting third baseman Rafael Devers and outfielder Masataka Yoshida on Wednesday night against the Colorado Rockies.

Ordinarily, a pair of lefties taking a breather against a lefty (Austin Gomber), wouldn't raise too many eyebrows, but in this case it does.

The Red Sox are staring down a sweep at the hands of the Rockies, who entered this series as the worst team in the National League.

How can a team that's currently in last place, that has an off-day on Thursday, afford to sit its two best and most productive offensive players?

Not to mention that Devers had two home runs on Tuesday night and is finally swinging a hot bat. Now, you pull him?

This doesn't make any sense. It's also not necessary, splits wise: Devers is hitting .250 against lefties, actually higher than his .246 against righties, while Yoshida is hitting is still hitting a respectable .258 against lefties.

Here is the full line-up, per Tyler Millken of 98.5 The Sports Hub:

1. Refsnyder LF

2. Turner 3B

3. Verdugo RF

4. Duvall DH

5. Arroyo 2B

6. Hernández CF

7. Casas 1B

8. Wong C

9. Reyes SS

Garrett Whitlock gets the start. 7:10 first pitch.

So Devers has to sit so that Triston Casas (.143 vs. lefties) can play? Yoshida has to sit so that Casas can play?

Make it make sense, please.

The Red Sox enter play in last place in the American League East at 33-35. If they lose, they'll tie their lowest under .500 mark of the season.

The Sox will open up a series against the Yankees on Friday night at Fenway Park.
