The Cincinnati Reds non-tendered Nick Senzel on Friday, ending the tenure in the 'Queen City," of the former No. 2 pick in the MLB Draft.

Per Kyle Glaser of Baseball America on social media:

The Reds have non-tendered Nick Senzel, per his Instagram post this afternoon. Senzel was the No. 2 overall pick in 2016. He hit .239/.302/.369 in six seasons with the Reds while battling an assortment of injuries and multiple position changes.

Glaser corrected himself to say that Senzel actually spent six years with the Reds, but nevertheless, it's a disappointing ending for a guy who was supposed to be one of the foundational pieces of the Reds' rebuild.

Given the Reds roster full of young players, there just wasn't room to wait for Senzel anymore. The team boasts youngsters like Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Noelvi Marte.

Because he's just 28 years old, and given his prospect pedigree, Senzel is likely to get snatched up this offseason.

It will be interesting to see if a team gives him a major league deal or if he's forced to sign a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. A rebuilding team like the Colorado Rockies or Oakland Athletics could be interested, and could possibly guarantee him a starting job, or a team that needs OF depth and likes reclamation projects could want him. 

The Seattle Mariners would fit that build, especially in the wake of losing Teoscar Hernandez to free agency this offseason.
