The San Francisco Giants have a new pitching coach: Bryan Price.

MLBTradeRumors was one of many outlets to have the news.

Price has been a longtime pitching coach around the league, most notably with the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and Arizona Diamondbacks. He also held the position with the Philadelphia Phillies.

In addition to his pitching coach duties, he's also been a manager before, having captained the Reds to a 279-387 record during parts of 2014-2018.

The move is notable because Price hasn't been an on-field coach since the 2020 season (Phillies) but he does have a longstanding relationship with new Giants' manager Bob Melvin, whom he worked for in Seattle and Arizona.

With the Giants, Melvin and Price have multiple interesting pitchers on the roster, including Logan Webb and closer Camilo Doval, but they also face an overall interesting pitching situation.

Per the article:

Price takes on an interesting challenge in a Giants pitching staff that posted generally solid results in 2023, albeit in unusual fashion. Logan Webb and Alex Cobb were used as regular starters, but for much of the season, the rest of the rotation spots were filled by a collection of bullpen games, piggybacked pitchers, and opener/bulk pitcher combinations. Anthony DeSclafani, Ross Stripling, and younger arms like Kyle Harrison and Keaton Winn could again be used in some sort of similar capacity in 2024, yet the Giants are known to be looking at adding some regular starters this winter, including such top names as Yoshinobu Yamamoto

They finished fourth in National League West last year behind the Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Padres. They went 79-83.
