Former Infielder Announces Retirement at the Age of 32
Former major league infielder Brandon Dixon, who played for the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers and San Diego Padres, has announced his retirement at the age of 32.
He made the announcement himself on "X:"
Officially retired from baseball. I’m so thankful for all the relationships, support, and experiences over the past 10 years. It’s been a fun journey, from a kid dreaming of the big leagues to getting to play for my hometown team. Thank you to everyone who was part of it.
The California native appeared in major league games in parts of five different seasons with those three organizations. He had a prominent role on the 2019 Tigers when he appeared in 117 games. Lifetime, he was a .224 hitter with 22 home runs and 74 RBI. He hit 15 of those home runs during that 2019 season.
In 2023, he appeared in 33 games for the Padres, hitting two home runs.
Dixon played his college ball at the University of Arizona and was drafted in the third round of the 2013 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was part of a big trade in 2015 that sent Frankie Montas from the White Sox to the Dodgers organization and sent Todd Frazier from the Reds to the White Sox.
There's no word yet on what Dixon will do but it's an incredible accomplishment to have made the majors and to have spent parts of five years in the big leagues.
