Former Kansas City Player Claimed Off Waivers By Arizona Diamondbacks
The busy offseason of the Arizona Diamondbacks continued on Monday as the team claimed former Kansas City Royals pitcher Collin Snider off waivers.
Per the Diamondbacks:
The #Dbacks claimed RHP Collin Snider off waivers from the Royals. The 40-man roster is at 40.
While not the biggest move that the Diamondbacks have made this offseason, it's noteworthy that the 40-man roster is now full. Any other moves the D'Backs make will need to come with someone being moved the 40-man roster to make room.
Snider is a 28-year-old pitcher who was drafted by KC in the 12th round of the 2017 draft out of Vanderbilt.
He made his major league debut in 2022 and owns a lifetime 5.93 ERA over 62 career games. This past year for Kansas City, he pitched 20.1 innings and tallied a 4.87, which was an improvement over his rookie year.
In addition to adding Snider, the team has signed outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez. They've also traded for slugging third baseman Eugenio Suarez and acquired closer Paul Sewald at the trade deadline in 2023.
Arizona made the World Series last season and is certainly looking to duplicate its performance (and then some) in 2024. While the moves they've made are exciting, they are still behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the race for the National League West.
Not only did the Dodgers win the division in 2023, they went out and added Shohei Ohtani and Tyler Glasnow thus far this offseason - and they don't appear to be done.
