Former Major League All-Star Continues Climb in Political Career, Will Appear on November Ballot

Former MLB All-Star Steve Garvey is officially going to be on the ballot for November's general election. He is trying to win a senate seat in California.

Former Major League All-Star Steve Garvey took a major step forward in his political career on Tuesday night.

Per USA Today:

Former Major League Baseball star Steve Garvey advanced in California's U.S. Senate primary on Tuesday, setting up a matchup with Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff in November's general election.

Garvey is running as a Republican and placed second in California's "jungle primary," which puts all candidates – regardless of party affiliation – into one pot, with the top two moving on to the general election.

Garvey announced back in October that he was going to try to win a seat in the senate. This is his first real trip in the political waters. At 75 years old, Garvey has a name recognition - especially with older California voters - which should continue to give him a fighting chance in November.

He played 19 years in the Major Leagues, all with the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Diego Padres. He spent 14 years in LA and five in San Diego at the end of his career. Lifetime, he was a .294 hitter who belted 272 homers and registered 2,599 hits.

He was a 10-time All-Star, a four-time Gold Glover, a 2-time NLCS MVP and the MVP in 1974.

He hit a career-high 28 home runs in 1979 and led the National League in hits in both 1978 and 1980.

The general election will be held on November 5 of this year. That is the first Tuesday in November. In addition to Garvey's senate seat, that's when the Presidential race will be decided.
