Jacob deGrom impressed in his highly anticipated spring debut for the Texas Rangers Sunday.

DeGrom struck out four batters, allowing two hits, no runs and no walks, against a potent Seattle Mariners lineup, which included Julio Rodriguez, Jarred Kelenic and Cam Raleigh at the top of it.

Rodriguez just returned to Arizona for spring training, following the Dominican Republic's elimination from the World Baseball Classic, coming at the hands of Puerto Rico last week.

DeGrom, a two-time National League Cy Young Award winner, four-time All-Star and two-time All-MLB First Team selection, signed a five-year, $185 million contract with the Rangers, after playing his first nine Major League seasons for the New York Mets.

DeGrom did not begin throwing until late February, as the Rangers took precaution as deGrom dealt with tightness in his left side.

DeGrom pitched like an ace once again on Sunday, giving Rangers fans something to be very excited about, less than two weeks out from Opening Day.

DeGrom was dominant to start 2021, opening the season with a 7-2 record and 1.08 ERA over 92 innings pitched. DeGrom's season came to a sudden ending, as he began experiencing elbow issues in July. DeGrom made just 15 starts in 2021 and 11 starts in 2022. He has not made more than 15 starts in a season since 2019.

The Mets opted not to re-sign deGrom, instead signing reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander to a two-year, $86.7 million contract in December.

DeGrom joins the Rangers, who entirely remade their pitching rotation over the winter, adding Andrew Heaney, Nathan Eovaldi and Jake Odorizzi, to pair with deGrom, Martin Perez and Jon Gray.

As for deGrom: so far, so good.
