Kansas City Royals Continue to Be Linked to Solid Starters on Free Agent Market

After making an offer to Sonny Gray this offseason, the Kansas City Royals continue to be linked to solid starters on the free agent market. This time, it's being reported that the team is interested in Marcus Stroman.

The Kansas City Royals, who are coming off a year in which they finished with the second-worst record in baseball, appear hellbent on landing a solid veteran starter on the free agent market.

We also heard that they made an offer to Sonny Gray before he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and we heard they were connected to Lucas Giolito too.

And now this, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Like to see the Royals looking at some of the better starters on the market. Lucas Giolito and Marcus Stroman appear to be on their radar, as are others.

While maybe the Royals aren't willing to spend at the top of the market for Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery or Yoshinobu Yamamoto, it is good to see them connected to guys who will be on smaller (but still lucrative) deals.

As for Stroman, the 32-year-old has been in the majors for 10 years (though he didn't play during the COVID 2020 season). He's pitched with the Blue Jays, Mets and Cubs.

He's a two-time All-Star who has gone 77-76 in his career with a 3.65 ERA. He won a career-high 13 games with Toronto in 2017 and has won double-digit games in four different seasons.

If the Royals can land 1-2 of the starters they are connected to, they will immediately become more interesting. They already have one of the best young players in the league in Bobby Witt Jr., but they do need to aid a pitching staff that right now only features Cole Ragans and Brady Singer as possible foundational pieces.
