The Seattle Mariners beat the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night 8-4 at Great American Ball Park.

It was a huge win for Seattle, which snapped a three-game losing streak and moved to 78-61. They are in second place in the American League West, 1.0 game behind the Houston Astros. They currently hold the second wild card spot in the AL.

As for the Reds, they fell to 73-69. They trail in the battle for the final National League wild card spot by 0.5 games.

While the game result was obviously important, the friendship of Mariners' star Julio Rodriguez and Reds' rookie Noelvi Marte took center stage with some wholesome moments.

From Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

baseball is the BEST

After Rodriguez robbed Marte of a hit in centerfield, he flashed his "no fly zone" sign at him. When Marte threw Rodriguez out at first base, he waved his finger and essentially said "not on my watch."

The Mariners are no strangers to these kind of on-field friendships, as they had one for years with Felix Hernandez and Adrian Beltre. This kind of personality and camaraderie is a good thing for baseball and makes the game more fun.

Rodriguez and Marte are friends because Marte came up through the Mariners system before being traded to the Reds in 2022 as part of the trade for Luis Castillo.

The Mariners will be back in action on Thursday when they take on the Tampa Bay Rays. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET.

The Reds will play the Cardinals on Friday at 6:40 p.m. ET.
