The Texas Rangers have become the latest team to unveil their "City Connect" uniforms.

The Rangers put out pictures on social media and put out an infographic explaining what the uniform represents. It's based on the baseball heritage of Dallas and Forth Worth.

The Rangers are going with a black hat with white lettering which seems to say TX on it, while going with a white uniform top with the same black TX and red numerals. The red is apparently an homage to old Fort Worth Panthers.

The Rangers are also going with black pants with a white stripe down the side.

Paul Lukas, who is a uniform expert at "Uni Watch" had this to say about the uniforms:

  • "That stylized “TX” logo on the jersey and cap doesn’t work for me at all. Looks more like “FX,” or “IX,” or just an abstract jumble.
  • See that little logo at the top of the left pant leg. That’s similar to the little logo on the Cubs’ road pants.
  • Speaking of the pants: They’re going with a white belt! Insert “It’s not Memorial Day yet!” jokes here.

Overall: This feels like a weird mishmash of elements that don’t cohere very well. I do like that the whole thing is based on baseball history (not just local history), but it’s not a very effective uniform."

The Rangers will debut these uniforms this Friday and Saturday and then will wear them each Friday home game for the rest of the season.

Texas is currently in first place in the American League West at 9-6. They'll open up a new series with the Royals tonight.
