Los Angeles Angels Come to Terms with Former Twins, Yankees, Orioles OF

After a strong run to end the 2023 season with the Baltimore Orioles, veteran outfielder Aaron Hicks has signed with the Los Angeles Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels have signed veteran outfielder Aaron Hicks to a major league deal, meaning they'll need to open up a 40-man roster spot for him.

Per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register:

Source: the Angels have agreed to a deal with OF Aaron Hicks, who is still being paid by the Yankees through 2025. He was released last year. Now retiring to my vacation.

That means that the Angels will only need to pay Hicks the minimum in 2024, with the Yankees paying the rest. That seems like a worthy flier for Los Angeles, who is hoping that Hicks can rediscover what made him a solid player for the most of his career outside of New York.

The 34-year-old is a veteran of 11 years with the Twins, Yankees and Orioles. After being let go from the Yankees last season after 28 games, he latched on with Baltimore, playing 65 more and hitting .275 with seven homers. He helped the O's win the American League East and secure a 101-win season.

He spent parts of eight years in New York but was really never able to stay healthy or remain productive. He did hit .266 in 2017 and did hit 27 homers in 2018 but his injury history and strikeout issues became his undoing for New York fans.

He was hitting just .188 in 2023 when released.

Hicks should get opportunity in Los Angeles in a relatively pressure free environment. The Halos finished fourth in the American League West last season and lost Shohei Ohtani this offseason in free agency.
