San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael Wacha was named the National League Pitcher of the Month for the month of May while Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi was named the Pitcher of the Month in the American League.

Major League Baseball announced the awards on Friday.

Wacha went 3-0 in the month with a 0.84 ERA while Eovaldi went 4-0 with a 0.96 ERA.

Those stats must hurt for Red Sox fans to see, considering both players were not retained by the Sox in free agency.

For the season, the 31-year-old Wacha is 5-1 with a 3.45 ERA. He's struck out 49 in 67.1 innings. Lifetime, he's 79-51 with a 4.02 ERA. He has made the All-Star team before in the National League and was named NLCS MVP back in 2013.

He has played for the Cardinals, Mets, Rays, Red Sox and Padres.

As for Eovaldi, he was signed as part of the Texas Rangers free agent blitz on pitching. The team signed him, Jacob deGrom and Andrew Heaney this past offseason. He's 7-2 this year with a 2.42 ERA. He's struck out 70 batters in 74.1 innings.

Lifetime, he's 74-70 with a 4.06 ERA. He's made the All-Star team as well and helped the Red Sox win the 2018 World Series.

He's pitched for the Dodgers, Marlins, Yankees, Rays and Red Sox.

He led the majors in win-loss percentage in 2015 with the Yankees when he went 14-3. He currently leads the majors in complete games with two. He also leads in shutouts with one.
