The Minnesota Twins have agreed to terms on a one-year, Major League contract with infielder Donovan Solano, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports.

Solano slashed .284/.339/.724 with four home runs and 24 RBI in 80 games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2022.

Since the start of the 2019 season, Solano has a slash line of .301/.350/.771 over 316 games. Solano made a habit out of signing minor league contracts, since receiving a spring training invite to Miami Marlins spring training in 2012.

Solano broke through in 2020, winning a National League Silver Slugger Award in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, batting .330 with a .360 On Base Percentage and .815 OPS. At the time, he was a member of the San Francisco Giants. Solano also appeared in nine games for the New York Yankees in 2016.

Solano can fill the role of the recently traded Luis Arraez, in the Twins' lineup in 2023. Arraez was a useful utility player that played a number of infield positions for the club. The Twins traded Arraez to the Miami Marlins for starting pitcher Pablo Lopez and prospects last month. Solano won't be expected to produce the same way Arraez did. Arraez won a batting title in 2023. But Solano can add depth to the Twins talented infield that features Carlos Correa, Jose Aranda, Royce Lewis and Jorge Polanco.

The Twins won 78 games in 2022 and have not made the playoffs since 2020. The club has had a very active offseason, and hopes to return to the postseason in 2023.
