New Los Angeles Dodgers' Superstar Shohei Ohtani Gets First Hit in Dodgers' Uniform, Then Steals Second Base

Los Angeles Dodgers' superstar Shohei Ohtani wasted no time in making an impact for his new team, registering his first Dodgers hit with a single in the top of the third inning on Wednesday. He then immediately stole second base.

Playing in the first game of the season-opening "Seoul Series," the superstar recorded his first hit in a Dodgers' uniform by lacing a single to right field off of San Diego Padres' ace Yu Darvish in the top of the third inning.

It came on a high two-seam fastball, which Ohtani did an amazing job to even get to, nevertheless scorch to right field.

Ohtani then immediately stole second base to help set up a scoring opportunity for Los Angeles in a script that will likely become familiar to Dodgers' fans throughout the year. He grounded into a fielders' choice during his first at-bat.

After signing a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers in the offseason, Ohtani is the storyline of the 2024 Major League Baseball season.

A two-time MVP winner in six years with the Los Angeles Angels, he's the most unique player we've ever seen. He entered this season on the heels of a 44-home run season, which led the American League. The 29-year-old is a .274 lifetime hitter (entering 2024) with 171 home runs and 86 stolen bases. A Rookie of the Year winner and a three-time All-Star, he'll be expected to help lift the Dodgers to their first World Series title since the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

In addition to him, the Dodgers also added Teoscar Hernandez, James Paxton, Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto over the offseason.
