Pittsburgh Pirates' Andrew McCutchen Did Something in July That Has Only Happened Twice in Nearly 50 Years

Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates made some unique team history in the month of July, but not in a good way.

Pittsburgh Pirates legend Andrew McCutchen was on the wrong side of team history in the month of July, doing something that's only happened twice in nearly the last 50 years.

Per Ethan Fisher on Twitter:

Andrew McCutchen just went the entire month of July* without driving in a run. The last Pirate to go a whole month with at least 65 plate appearances and 0 RBIs was... Rodolfo Castro, in May of '22. But before that, it hadn't happened since 1974.

While the month of July wasn't kind to McCutchen, it has been a nice reunion season for him in Pittsburgh. After starring for the Pirates 2009-2017, McCutchen left for stops in San Francisco, New York (AL), Philadelphia and Milwaukee, before returning this year.

McCutchen is hitting .257 with 10 home runs and 28 RBI this year, to go along with 10 stolen bases in 85 games.

He's a five-time All-Star and a four-time Silver Slugger award winner who has also won an MVP award. Lifetime, he's a .276 hitter with 297 homers, so he has a high chance of reaching the 300-homer plateau this season.

Despite his ability to help a contender, it does not appear that McCutchen is going to be traded at this trade deadline, as he wants to remain in Pittsburgh.

The Pirates are 47-58 and in fourth place in the National League Central. They are off on Monday but will open up a series on Tuesday night with the Detroit Tigers.

First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. ET.
