Seattle Mariners' GM Addresses Team's Roster, Says Significant Additions Likely Aren't Coming

According to Seattle Mariners' general manager Justin Hollander, the team is unlikely to make any more significant changes to the roster and will likely focus on improving in the margins.

Seattle's offseason has been marred by a lack of spending, and they don't appear set to break that philosophy now in order to sign Matt Chapman, Blake Snell or Cody Bellinger. Instead, the M's have focused on making cost-prohibitive trades, shipping out Marco Gonzales, Evan White, Jarred Kelenic, Robbie Ray and Eugenio Suarez, in addition to letting Teoscar Hernandez walk in free agency.

They've brought in Luis Urias, Mitch Haniger, Luke Raley, and Jorge Polanco as their replacements, and are counting on internal improvement from guys like Dom Canzone and Ty France.

Hollander's comments on the state of the roster were found on MLB.com:

“You never know,” general manager Justin Hollander said Tuesday at Cactus League media day. “I think this group of players that we have -- our 40-man roster as is -- we may add on the margins, we may add in a more significant way, but I would expect it's probably more on the margins than a real significant way based on where we’re at.”

If the M's are going to add on the margins, it could be acquiring another depth starter. The team has five starters right now but could use some more depth in the upper-level minors. Furthermore, they could use some additional help in the bullpen where Matt Brash, Andres Munoz, Gregory Santos (health pending), Gabe Speier and Austin Voth appear to have roles locked down, but some competition still exists in the back end.
