The Seattle Mariners were in need of some magic on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Angels, having dropped four of five entering the contest.

And thanks to a few high-profile names, the M's got those highlights in the early going.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Teoscar Hernández, the M's most prized offseason acquisition, hit his first home run as a Mariner, taking an offering for Angels starter Jose Suarez out to dead center field. The home run went 419 feet.

And for good measure, Hernández decided to homer again in the fifth inning, taking Suarez out to left field for a three-run shot. The home run at the time put the Mariners up 6-0. It was the 15th career multi-home run game for Hernández.

Hernández had been slumping terribly for the Mariners, going 1-18 for the season prior to that first home run. He hit .267 a season ago for the Blue Jays with 25 homers and 77 RBIs. He was acquired in the offseason for reliever Erik Swanson and a prospect.

Elsewhere for the Mariners on the night, starting pitcher Luis Castillo provided some highlights also. He struck out Mike Trout multiple times and also turned in this web gem in the top of the fourth, robbing Hunter Renfroe of a ball up the middle.

While Hernández was the prize of the Mariners offseason, Castillo was the prize of the last calendar year, being acquired at the trade deadline last season from the Reds in a deal centered around prospects Edwin Arroyo and Noelvi Marte. After being acquired, Castillo signed a five-year, $108 million contract extension.

He went 4-2 for the Mariners after the trade last season and started Game 1 of the Mariners playoff run against the Blue Jays, getting the the win.
