The Seattle Mariners utilized a five-run second inning on Wednesday night to stake out to a 5-2 lead over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

After Nick Castellanos gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead with a home run in the bottom of the first, the Mariners got a grand slam from shortstop  JP Crawford to take a 4-2 lead and then got a solo home run immediately following from Julio Rodriguez.

The Mariners did all the damage with two outs as they got a walk from Cal Raleigh, a single from AJ Pollock and a walk from Kolten Wong in advance of Crawford. You can see the home from Crawford here.

That was Crawford's second career grand slam and his first home run of the season. For the season, Crawford is hitting .254 through 67 at-bats. He has the one homer, eight RBI and has posted an OPS of .786.

For his career, he's a .248 hitter with 28 homers and 192 RBI. He's a former first round pick of the Phillies (2013) who was traded to the Mariners before the 2019 season in a deal that sent Jean Segura, James Pazos and Juan Nicasio to Philly.

As for Rodriguez, he hit his fifth home run of the season, getting a 2-2 splitter and taking it out to deep left field.

The 22-year-old superstar has been out to a slow start this season. He's hitting .240 through 100 at-bats but he does have the five home runs and 13 RBI, as well as five stolen bases.

Rodriguez won the American League Rookie of the Year a season ago after hitting .284 with 28 homers and 75 RBI. He led the Mariners to their first playoff appearance since 2021, where they beat the Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card round before losing to the Houston Astros in the American League Division Series.

As for Walker, who gave up the home runs, he's a former first-round pick of the Mariners (2010). The California native spent the 2013-2017 seasons with the Mariners before being sent to Arizona with Ketel Marte in a deal that brought back Mitch Haniger to the Mariners. Walker returned back to the Mariners in the 2020 season but was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. Since then, he's been with the Mets and is in his first year with the Phillies.

This season, he's 2-1 with a 5.18 ERA in 24 innings. For his career, he's 56-51 with a 3.92 ERA.

At the time of this posting, the Mariners lead the Phillies, 5-3, in the top of the fourth inning. Aside from all the home runs, the Phillies have gotten an RBI single from Kyle Schwarber.

These two teams will wrap up a three-game series on Thursday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. ET.
