The Seattle Mariners put out an awesome tweet on Monday night featuring pictures of Ichiro and Shohei Ohtani.

The tweet featured a picture of Ichiro signing autographs at the All-Star Game in 2001 and Ohtani signing autographs on Monday.

Both the 2021 game and the 2023 event are in Seattle. The Mariners captioned the photo:

Stars from (Japan flag emoji), 22 years apart.

It's a fitting picture for many reasons.

1) The obvious reason of the game being in Seattle.

2) The more subtle knowledge that Ichiro is one of Ohtani's idols. Ohtani has spoken about Ichiro with reverence and the two legends talking before games is always photographed.

One of the best players of his generation, Ichiro is a sure-fire Hall of Famer when eligible. He spent parts of 19 seasons in the major leagues with the Mariners, Yankees and Marlins, amassing 3,089 hits and posting a lifetime batting average of .311. He won two batting titles and was named a 10-time All-Star and a 10-time Gold Glover. He also won the Rookie of the Year award and the MVP in 2001.

This was all accomplished after a great career in Japan. He didn't come to the majors until the age of 27.

As for Ohtani, he's the star of stars at this years Midsummer Classic. The two-way sensation is hitting .302 this year for the Angels with 32 homers and 71 RBI. His 32 homers lead baseball and he's posted a robust .387 on-base percentage.

He's also 7-4 on the mound and has registered 132 strikeouts in 100.1 innings.

The All-Star Game is Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. ET.
