According to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times, the Seattle Mariners have signed utility player Brian Anderson and pitcher Trevor Kelley to minor league deals.

From Divish:

Per sources they are signing minor league contracts.

The 30-year-old Anderson is a veteran of seven major league seasons. He spent the first six years of his career with the Miami Marlins and spent 2023 with the Milwaukee Brewers. Though his power has subsided in recent years, he hit 20 homers back in the 2019 season and added 11 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season for Miami.

If he sticks in the organization, he figures to serve as minor league depth, but there's no guarantee he will want to do that. The M's currently have Josh Rojas/Luis Urias set to play third base but Urias recently had shoulder discomfort, so maybe he's there as insurance for him.

As for Kelley, he's a former 36th-round pick of the Boston Red Sox out of North Carolina. He's appeared in parts of four major league seasons with the Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays. He pitched in 10 games for Tampa a season ago, going 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA in 15.1 innings.

The Mariners finished the season at 88-74 in 2023, missing the playoffs by 1.0 game. They are the only organization in Major League Baseball to never appear in a World Series and will have a tough battle in the American League West this season.

They will open up the season on March 28 against the Boston Red Sox.
