The New York Yankees will play the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. ET at the Cardinals' spring training home, Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, Florida.

Nestor Cortes will take the mound for the Yankees, after enjoying his best professional season in 2022, earning him a trip to the All-Star Game.

31-year-old Steven Matz will start for the Cardinals. Matz, entering his second season in St. Louis, is off to a terrific start this spring. Through his first three starts, he has allowed only two runs  off seven hits and three walks over 11.2 innings pitched, good for a 1.54 ERA. After Matz enjoyed a strong 2021 season with the Toronto Blue Jays, he signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Cardinals. Matz was limited in 2022 due to injuries, but hopes to be a key starter in the Cardinals' rotation, especially with Adam Wainwright likely missing the start of the season.
