According to Toronto Blue Jays' catcher Danny Jansen, he and the team have not discussed a contract extension at this point.

He made the comments as part of a podcast with Scott Mitchell of TSN:

"We talked a little bit and then both parties agreed to carry on and see what happens throughout this year and all. That's been the extent of that. It's definitely been a bumpy road this year a little bit with some injuries, but I'm proud of everything I've done and overcome this year."

The 28-year-old Jansen is heading into his final year of arbitration eligibility after hitting .228 this past season with 17 homers. Because of the injuries he referenced, Jansen only got 268 at-bats in 2023.

Lifetime, he's a .224 hitter, but he does provide pop to a lineup. He's got 65 career home runs in his six seasons at the big league level.

Perhaps the Blue Jays have some questions about durability/role with Jansen. He's never played more than 107 games in any season and the team also employs catcher Alejandro Kirk, who also plays quite a bit.

It could also be that the Blue Jays have allocated a lot of money recently and are now being forced into some tough choices. They've spent big on Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios and Chris Bassitt, and also need to save some money for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, who will be free agents in the next few years. They are also hoping to re-sign Matt Chapman this offseason, who is going to command more than $100 million.

Toronto finished third in the American League East and was bounced from the playoffs in the wild card round by the Minnesota Twins.
