Two-Time Cy Young Winner Reportedly Has Message For Seattle Mariners' Fans

Everything we've heard this offseason indicates that two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell wants to play for his hometown Seattle Mariners. Here's the message that he reportedly has for the team.

We've heard that now two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell wants to play for the Seattle Mariners moving forward. He is a free agent and is free to sign with any team. Given that he's a Seattle native, his reported desire is not farfetched.

We've written about this situation on multiple occasions, and Snell was in Seattle this past weekend supporting the hometown University of Washington football team and the Seattle Seahawks, which only fueled commentary and speculation.

And according to one Washington Insider, here's the message that Snell has for the Mariners and their fans:

Some students yelled at Blake Snell walked past the Dawg Pack and they yelled at him “come play for the Ms!” He said, “come get me.”

Take that for what it’s worth

There are a few things at play here that need to be kept in mind:

1) Snell is going to want a contract that is well over $100 million. He's coming off his second Cy Young award, winning it for the San Diego Padres after going 14-9 with a 2.25 ERA. The Mariners haven't been willing to shell out big free agent dollars much lately, so it remains to be seen if they'd even be interested in that territory.

2) The Mariners have a lot of pitching. They don't truly need to acquire it. They need offense. Perhaps they could sign Snell and then trade one of their young arms like Bryce Miller or Bryan Woo to acquire offense, but beyond that, pitching is not a real need.

Now that Aaron Nola and Sonny Gray have signed contracts, we could get some movement on Snell's market soon.
