According to a report from Talk Nats on social media, the Washington Nationals are not pursuing now-former Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez in free agency.

Source: The #Nats are not a mystery team on Teoscar Hernandez and are looking for lefty power after the Nick Senzel signing. Personally, I thought Teoscar would be a great signing for a team. There is a small list of players that fit "lefty power." Other than that is the Nats' main focus on resources is for a starting pitcher.

Hernandez would have represented a significant offensive boost for a Nats team that finished last in the National League East last season and is looking to get back to relevance. They could have paired Hernandez in the outfield with Lane Thomas, who had a breakout year in 2023, and youngsters like Keibert Ruiz and CJ Abrams.

If the Nats prefer a left-handed power bat, the obvious answer is Cody Bellinger. The former MVP spent 2023 with the Chicago Cubs and posted an excellent .307 batting average with 26 homers. Reports indicate that he wants more than $200 million, which may be out of the franchise's price range at this time.

If not Bellinger, Joey Votto is still available, as is catcher Yasmani Grandal. Michael Brantley is also unsigned, as is Matt Carpenter.

As for Hernandez, if Washington isn't interested, he's been connected heavily to the Boston Red Sox. The two sides were even discussing the framework of a deal recently, per reports.
