Washington Nationals Close to Extending Both Manager and GM

In this story:
The Washington Nationals, fresh off their Little League Classic win over the Philadelphia Phillies, are closing in on contract agreements with manager Davey Martinez and general manager Mike Rizzo.
Neither is under contract after this offseason.
The report came in 'The Athletic."
The Nationals have signed manager Davey Martinez to a two-year contract extension and general manager Mike Rizzo also is close to a new deal, according to sources briefed on the discussions.
Martinez, 58, also is getting a club option for a third year. Rizzo, 62, is expected to sign a deal of similar length. Both are completing the option years on their current agreements.
Both men were at the helm of the Nationals World Series title in 2019 (over the Astros) and have since overseen a rebuild that is starting to take hold. Though in last place, the Nationals are now 57-68 and have won seven of their last 10 games. They've taken consecutive series from the Boston Red Sox and Phillies.
As part of the rebuild, Washington also boasts several young, exciting players including Keibert Ruiz, CJ Abrams, and MacKenzie Gore. They also acquired several other talented players when they traded Juan Soto, Max Scherzer and Trea Turner.
They drafted national champion Dylan Crews out of LSU this year and have already promoted him to Double-A, another indication that the future is bright in D.C.
Martinez has been the Nationals manager since 2018 and has a lifetime record of 378-455.
The Nationals will take on the Yankees on Tuesday night.
