New York Yankees top prospect Anthony Volpe hit his first major league home run on Friday night against the Minnesota Twins.

Hitting out of the leadoff spot, Volpe took a 95 mph fastball from Louie Varland out to left field to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

At the time of this posting, the Yankees lead 3-2.

You can see the highlight of the Volpe home run below:

Volpe made the club out of spring training amidst much fanfare, but it has been a struggle for him through the first month of the season.

He's currently hitting .175 with that home run, one RBI and three stolen bases. In the minors, Volpe hit .262 while posting a .376 on-base percentage. He hit 50 career homers and stole 89 bases.

From his MLB.com prospect profile:

"He still has as much pure hitting ability as anyone in the system, but he now has a right-handed stroke geared for loft and produces high exit velocities and power to all fields."

If Volpe can figure it out offensively, it would be a big boost to a Yankees offense that features sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. The team is also getting a resurgent season from second baseman Gleyber Torres, who is hitting .310 at this point of the season.

As for this game, the Yankees have gotten home runs from Volpe, Judge and Staton.

Nestor Cortes has thrown 6.2 innings at the time of this posting, allowing two earned runs while registering six strikeouts.

The two teams will play again on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. ET.
