Tuesday afternoon, San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado was rung up on a pitch clock violation. After expressing his discontent with the call from the home plate umpire, Machado was ejected from Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Petco Park in the bottom of the first inning.

Machado appeared to have attempted to call time out before the pitch clock violation, however he was not granted his wish. He left Tuesday's game early and unhappy, as he recorded the final out of the first inning.

It was the first time in Major League history that a player was ejected over an argument stemming from the pitch clock.

The Padres entered play Tuesday standing at 3-2, tied for first place in the National League West with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres opened the season 0-2, but have won three straight. The club split a four-game series 2-2 with the Colorado Rockies in their Opening weekend. Monday night, the Padres defeated the Diamondbacks 5-4.
