The Cardinals overcame two deficits Sunday to salvage a four-game series, splitting the series two games a piece with the Pirates.
The Pirates led 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, before Lars Nootbaar tied the game 3-3 with a two-run homer, scoring catcher Willson Contreras.
The Pirates took a 4-3 lead in the top of the tenth inning, setting the stage for a Cardinals comeback and walk-off victory.
Canaan Smith-Njigba put the Buccos up 4-3 with a productive groundout to first base, scoring Andrew McCutchen from third base.
After Nolan Arenado lined out to begin the bottom of the tenth, Willson Contreras drew a walk, putting runners on first and second with one out.
Paul Goldschmidt scored Nolan Gorman from second base with a ground-rule double, advancing Contreras to third base. The Pirates intentionally walked Lars Nootbar to load the bases. Pirates reliever Wil Crowe struck out Jordan Walker, with Edman due-up with the bases loaded.
Edman singled on a ground ball to center, scoring the game's winning run.
With the victory, the Cardinals improve to 7-9, while the Pirates fall to 9-7. Up next, St. Louis will host the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game series at Busch Stadium, before traveling to Seattle for a three-game series next weekend against the Mariners.
