Just months ago, Zac Gallen set a new Arizona Diamondbacks franchise record, surpassing Brandon Webb for the longest scoreless innings streak in franchise history.

Gallen went a month without a single earned run, pushing his scoreless innings streak to 44.1 IP, before the streak came to an end last fall. Now, Gallen is 28 innings deep in a new streak.

Gallen's 2023 got off to a slow start. He was roughed up by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Opening Day, allowing five runs off six hits and three walks. In his second start of the season, the San Diego Padres tagged five runs off Gallen, as Gallen allowed four earned runs off seven hits, two home runs and a walk. Since, however, Gallen has been pitching like a Cy Young.

Since his April 4 start against the Padres, Gallen has not allowed a single run in four starts and 27 innings. Wednesday, he was magnificent again in the Diamondbacks' 2-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals, clinching another series win, at Chase Field.

Gallen struck out 12 Royals, allowing only four hits and zero walks over 6.1 innings pitched. Gallen now leads Major League Baseball in strikeouts, with 51 punch-outs. Gallen's ERA is now down 2.15, lowering it an entire two runs in his dominant stretch.

The Diamondbacks scored both of their runs off RBI singles. The first came in the bottom of the fourth inning from Evan Longoria. The second occurred an inning later, when Emmanuel Rivera drove home Alek Thomas.

With their win, the Diamondbacks improve to 14-12 on the season. They remained tied for first place with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West, 1.5 games up on the San Diego Padres.
