Willson Contreras's Injury Status For Cardinals-Marlins Game on Saturday

Despite injuring his hand a few days ago, St. Louis Cardinals' catcher Willson Contreras is in the starting lineup on Saturday for the game against the Miami Marlins.

Despite injuring his hand a few days ago, St. Louis Cardinals' catcher Willson Contreras is in the lineup for Saturday's game between the Cardinals and the Miami Marlins.

Lynn Worthy, who covers the Cardinals, posted the lineup on social media. Contreras is playing designated hitter and hitting third behind Brendan Donovan and Paul Goldschmidt.

Today's lineup includes both Brendan Donovan and Willson Contreras (DH).

The 31-year-old Contreras is in the second year of a five-year contract that he signed with the Cardinals before the 2023 season. He's a three-time All-Star who helped the Chicago Cubs win the 2016 World Series.

Lifetime, Contreras is a .257 hitter with 139 homers. He's out to a slow start this year, hitting just .211. He does have two homers though for St. Louis, who is looking to improve upon a last-place finish in 2023 in the National League Central.

Thus far, they are doing that, going 4-4 through the first eight games of the season. On the other side of this matchup is a Marlins team that is 0-8, the last winless team in baseball. It's a surprising fall for a Miami team that made the playoffs, however, they've dealt with massive injuries this year. Star pitchers Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez are out for the year with Tommy John surgery and lefty Braxton Garrett hasn't pitched yet either. Neither has Edward Cabrera.

First pitch between the Marlins and Cardinals is set for 2:15 p.m. ET at Busch Stadium. Steven Matz will pitch for the Cardinals.
