Boxing News: Canelo Big Betting Favorite in Rumored Terence Crawford Fight

Opening odds for Canelo vs. Terence Crawford.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has opened as a considerable favorite in a rumored matchup with Terence Crawford.

Canelo will likely face Jermall Charlo and then Terence Crawford in 2024, as inferred by ESPN's Salvador Rodriguez on X:

"Everything looks like it would be Charlo & Crawford for Canelo in 2024, in that order."

Per BetOnline, Canelo opened as a -225 favorite against Crawford's +185. The lines have since adjusted, with Canelo even more favored to win at -240, and Crawford at +190.

Crawford last appeared in a #1 vs. #2 welterweight super fight against Errol Spence Jr. in September 2023. "Bud" beat Spence from pillar to post to secure the pound-for-pound #1 spot in the eyes of many fans.

Canelo and Crawford are both top-five pound-for-pound fighters, and the matchup could easily be the biggest all-boxing super fight since Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao in 2014. The only caveat, however, is the difference in weight.

According to reports from ESPN Mexico, the plan is for Canelo to defend his super-middleweight title against Charlo in May, and then have Crawford jump up three weight divisions to challenge the throne. Whether this skews the odds in favor of Canelo or Crawford remains yet to be seen.
