AEW News: Former WWE Commentator May Retire Once Current Contract Ends

This legendary wrestling commentator could be calling it a career next year.

One former WWE on-air legend and current AEW commentator might be wrapping up a stellar career soon.

Nothing lasts forever, as they say. Fans recently said goodbye to the legendary in-ring career of Sting. Future WWE Hall of Famer John Cena recently revealed that he plans to retire from pro wrestling by the age of 50. Bryan Danielson has plans to end his full-time run as an in-ring performer in favor of a part-time schedule.

Now, one of the most influential wrestling personalities of all time could be stepping away from the industry.

During an episode of the Grilling JR podcast, AEW commentator Jim Ross revealed that it's possible this will be his last year at the commentary desk. Ross has dealt with a slew of health problems over the years, but he said he's actually feeling healthier by the day at 72 years old.

Ultimately, JR said that whether or not this will be his final year on commentary is dependent on his mindset, health, and AEW founder Tony Khan. Ross said his appearances are now solely for pay-per-view, as he understands it. He also said he's quite happy with where things stand now with AEW.

Ross appeared on the AEW Revolution PPV event earlier this month. He called the AEW World Championship three-way match with champion Samoa Joe, "Hangman" Adam Page, and Swerve Strickland. He was also on the call for Sting's retirement match, which saw "The Icon" team up with Darby Allin to successfully defend the AEW World Tag Team Championship for the last time against The Young Bucks.
