'Ohio Against The World' NIL Merch To Support Buckeyes Athletes

The 1870 Society capitalizing on Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry to raise NIL money

Ohio State vs. Michigan is a rivalry like few others in college football. This week, it has inspired Ohio State’s NIL collective, The 1870 Society, to make sure that everyone knows it’s “Ohio Against the World.”

On Monday, the collective announced they will sell t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies with “Ohio Against the World” through its NIL collective web site in advance of Saturday’s rivalry game with the Wolverines.

Naturally, The 1870 Society is partnering with a Cincinnati lifestyle brand called Ohio Against the World, which was founded more than a decade ago. In this case, the proceeds of the sales in advance of the Michigan game will go straight to Ohio State athletes as part of The 1870 Society’s NIL program.

The 1870 Society was the first for-profit Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) collective to support Ohio State University athletics.

The 1870 Society’s promotion comes a couple of weeks after Michigan brought back it’s  “Michigan vs. Everybody” merchandise after Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended for three games in advance of Michigan’s game with Penn State.

That NIL partnership, through Michigan’s Champions Circle, Michigan’s official NIL collective, and the M Den, the latter of which is Michigan’s official online retailer, reportedly raised $50,000 for Michigan student-athletes in the first 48 hours of its release.

The t-shirts were produced by the “Detroit vs. Everybody” brand and also featured hoodies, sweatshirts, beanies and hats through the M Den’s online site.

Harbaugh won’t be on the sideline for Saturday’s game, which has massive College Football Playoff and Big Ten title game implications. Both the Wolverines and Buckeyes are 11-0, 8-0 in Big Ten play and are within the Top 4 of the most recent CFP rankings.

The winner will win the Big Ten East Division and advance to the conference title game in Indianapolis. The loser will finish 11-1 and await their fate from the CFP committee.
