Larry David Has Fully Embraced Adidas Stan Smith Sneakers

Larry David's latest fashion statement is wearing adidas Stan Smith sneakers.

Do not cry because it is over; smile because it happened. Wait, no, that's too sappy. It was all pretty, pretty, pretty good. After a dynastic run that lasted almost a quarter-century, Curb Your Enthusiasm aired its series finale last night (this is a spoiler-free article).

Larry David's weekly skirmishes over social norms were the main draw for the show. However, many viewers tuned in to see the septuagenarian's sartorial style. The show's 12 seasons, which span 24 years, provide distinct snapshots in time.

For David, almost all of them reflect kindly on his sense of fashion. The Oliver Peoples' glasses, crewneck sweaters, and deconstructed jackets were staples throughout the show. But one component of the world's most prickly man's wardrobe stood out in the series' final season and its corresponding press run — the sneakers.

It was impossible not to notice David's footwear in Season 12 of Curb. In almost every episode, he rocked a classic pair of white and green adidas Stan Smith sneakers. Even better, the anti-socialite has worn the old-school tennis shoes to various events, including courtside at NBA regular season and NCAA Tournament games.

Last year was the summer of the Samba (a retro soccer shoe from the adidas Originals catalog). But 2024 is shaping up to be the spring of Stan Smith. Former President Barack Obama held a pair in his hand during a beach trip in February, and his golfing buddy has further fueled the movement by fully endorsing the sneakers in the swan song of his television career.

Luckily for fans of the show, it is easy to replicate David's sneaker style at an affordable price. The adidas Stan Smith is available in several colorways for $100 in adult sizes on the adidas website. One pair of the iconic sneakers will prepare you for battles with baristas, golf course owners, and close friends alike.

As a sports fan, sneakerhead, and hypochondriac, I relate to "LD" on so many levels. If I ever see him at a game, my plan is to pay him the biggest compliment possible by leaving him alone. In the meantime, I will continue to study his style like ancient texts, and carry on his bold legacy of corduroy pants and sneakers.
