Every basketball fan over the age of 30 knows where LeBron James attended high school. No one can forget seeing the young phenom in St. Vincent-St. Mary's green and gold uniforms during their nationally televised games in the early 2000s.

While James wears his hometown pride for Akron on his sleeve, that has not stopped the NBA's all-time leading scorer from showing love to other schools. On Wednesday night, James led the Los Angeles Lakers to victory over the Dallas Mavericks while paying tribute to Christ the King High School in Queens, New York.

It is the second time this season that James has worn a maroon and gold colorway of his signature Nike sneakers that honored the Catholic school. Below is a detailed look at the hoop shoes and the story behind James' relationship with the private school.

A detailed look at the Nike LeBron 21.

James wore the Nike LeBron 21 in a never-before-seen 'Christ the King' colorway. The sneakers sported a gold upper, a white midsole and laces, with a maroon outsole and inner lining. The school's logo provided the finishing touches on the tongues of the shoes.

In 2018, James first visited Christ the King High School and surprised its boys' and girls' basketball teams with new locker rooms, apparel, and sneakers. Since then, both parties have apparently maintained a close relationship through hoops and footwear.

While this colorway of the Nike LeBron 21 will never be released to the public, there is a silver lining. Online shoppers can choose between several colorways of James' new and retro sneakers on the Nike website. With the NBA season barely halfway over, fans can expect James to debut a lot more heat as the Lakers gear up for another playoff run.
